The level of MeCP2 protein in neurons increases with neuronal maturity [ 18] and it is abundantly expressed in the mature brain, almost equivalent to Histone H1 levels [ 19], but the level of MECP2 mRNA in cells is reported to not correlate with the level of MeCP2 protein in cells [ 18].
