With a steady random noise source the energy density was not constant in the nave: at 1000 Hz the sound level fell away at an approximate rate of 3 dB per doubling of distance.
Due to skewness, we logarithmically transformed CRP in the analyses, we used logs to base 2 so that we could present associations per doubling of CRP, which are easy to interpret and consistent with previous studies in this area [20], [22].

Despite inconsistent results, the increase in noise levels with traffic volumes, and decreasing noise levels with distance (6 dB per doubling of distance from the road) have been well established (Ouis 2001).
