Three patterns of NTSR1-ir were observed (Fig. 4): nuclear, without distinct cytoplasmic staining (Fig. 4A); cytoplasmic, without distinct nuclear staining (Fig. 4B); and mixed staining pattern, with NTSR1-ir present in nucleus as well as in cytoplasm (Fig. 4C).
Well- and moderately-differentiated HCC cells had an exclusive nuclear staining pattern for CENP-A (Figure 2B&2C), while poorly-differentiated cells displayed a mixed staining pattern, with intense nuclear staining and weak, diffuse cytoplasmic staining (Figure 2D).
Six of the pRB-positive tumours contained areas of negatively staining tumour cells (mixed staining pattern).
Forty-eight (86%) and four (7%) of the 56 cases displayed, respectively, strong and intermediate expression of BCRP, with a mixed staining pattern, membranous (particularly among EC and YS elements) and cytoplasmic (in syncytiotrophoblasts).
Subsequently, p16 positive areas of HPV-positive tumor samples were subjected to laser-capture microdissection (so the relative amount of p16-positive tumor cells used for testing should be close to 100%) and tumor samples showing a mixed staining pattern (n = 8) were excluded from further analysis (see Additional File 1, Figure S1).

10 1326Scl-70Scl-70ich belongs to the 'ENA family', is also found both extrachromosomally in the nucleoplasm and bound to the DNA, thus giving rise to a mixed IF staining pattern.
The staining pattern for pRKIP is mixed, both cytoplasmic and nuclear.
Colonies were scored as undifferentiated, mixed, or differentiated according to the AP staining pattern because serum supports the survival and proliferation of differentiated cells.
Expression levels of HIF-1α, CAIX, Glut-1, and p27kip1 were analyzed by immunohistochemistry. Percentage of positive cells, staining pattern (perinecrotic, diffuse, or mixed) and presence of necrosis were noted.
The predominant staining pattern in all GBM was either parenchymal distribution only (22/46, 48%) or mixed perivascular and parenchymal in orientation, either focal or diffuse in distribution (18/46, 39%), with few cases showing only prominent perivascular distribution (2/46, 4%).
20/93 cases (21%) showed a purely perinecrotic staining pattern, 39/93 (42%) a purely diffuse pattern, and 34/93 (37%) showed a mixed (diffuse and perinecrotic) pattern (figure 1).
