Our results suggest that the interaction of genetic identity plays a significant role in maternal investment patterns, as females from the same hemiclone line (i.e. carrying the same haploid genome, and therefore of similar size) invested differently when mated with different male hemiclonal lines.
For this purpose, as-cast Co Cr cups and heads were mated with different boron additions (0, 0.3, 0.6 and 1 B wt%) and tested in 4×106 cycles using the three-axial FIME II hip joint simulator under variable load profiles, and foetal bovine serum solution was as the lubricant.
The strains χ7345 and χ7396 containing pAPEC-1-1 were then mated with different plasmidless recipient strains χ833, χ2934, and TOP10 (Table 1).
Communal nesting allows females to pool their litters in a nest with those of females that mated with different males.
A female that has not mated polyandrously would benefit from socially mediated polyandry, by associating her offspring with offspring of other females that mated with different males to herself, in a communal nest.
Second, paternal effects are also suggested from the antibiotics treatment experiment; although a single maternal line was used there is still significant variation among females within the control treatment, which could be explained by the fact that females were mated with different males.

Researchers from the Universities of Oxford, Stockholm and Linkoping have studied red junglefowl – that's a chicken, not a woman – and found that mating with different males makes offspring more resistant to disease.
The refractory period could indirectly cause males to mate with different hermaphrodites.
These two strains were still able to mate with different MAT1- 2 wild-type strains (see Additional file 2: Figure S1) as well as with strain QM6a.
Our experiment, in contrast, addressed the relative costs and benefits of mating with different males (stud vs. dud); the presence of an absolute cost was not addressed.
Male house mice instead demonstrate striking and predictable variation both in their propensity to mate with different females and in their copulatory behavior when doing so.
