Explanatory variables included indicators for intervention (PIP; 1 = intervention, 0 = SC) and antenatal depression (DEP; 1 = depressed, 0 = not depressed), time (TIME; 0 = birth, 1 = post-birth, 2 = six months), and the two- and three-way interactions of PIP, DEP, and TIME.
The model was tested at two time points: when individuals were clinically depressed (time 1) and approximately three months later when their progress towards recovery could be estimated (time 2).
Why? "My theory is the country was in a very depressed time," says Rita Wilson, one of the film's producers.
"It was a very depressed time in London, and working-class kids were acting out the realities of being on the dole.
The two together made me think that perhaps the time had come to look at how African-American books and their publishers are faring during a somewhat depressed time for book publishing generally.
In an economically depressed time, too, there was a demand for the densest, briefest, most compressed of stories — a longer literary work was in fact a luxury — and these were shared and circulated freely and spontaneously, like personal anecdotes.
