For each type of complaint, one of the three answers was possible: (1) yes, severe; (2) yes, mild and (3) No.
Sleep disturbances were assessed with the question "Do you have difficulty sleeping?" The response options were no; yes, somewhat (classified as mild sleep disturbances) and yes, severe (classified as severe sleep disturbances).

Those who answered "Yes, severe" and "Yes, slight" were regarded as having anxiety.

Severe anxiety was based on the question; " Do you have any symptoms of these; nervousness, uneasiness and anxiety?" Responses to the question was "No", "Yes, mild symptoms", or "Yes, severe symptoms".
