Demographic questions addressed respondent gender, age, highest level of education, job description, length of time in current position, current smoking status, and exposure to second hand tobacco smoke at work (yes, no) (Table 1).
Two questions were on exposure to toxic or noxious substances: seventh, have you ever been exposed to dust, gases, fumes, vapours or/and volatile toxics at home and/or at work? (yes, no) and eighth, do you smoke?
The questionnaire included questions on sickness absence, job title (operator, manager or office worker), occurrence of MSD in the previous 12 months (1-year prevalence), age, gender, height, weight, smoking status (yes – no), physical activity, shift work, job demands, job control and social support.
These include: age (15 24, 25 34, 35 44), residence (rural, urban); marital status (not currently married, currently married); education (did not complete secondary, completed secondary only, completed university or technical college); and working status (yes, no).
