THE creation of an art museum for the Housatonic Community-Technical College in Bridgeport was a vision that became a seven-year vocation for Burt Chernow, art professor, dealer, appraiser and author.
The Board then reduced the curriculum to a two-year, vocation-oriented farming program, a move that resulted almost overnight in a drastic reduction in enrollment.
"We would like to have more candidates, because we're an aging community," said the Rev. Charles Cummings, Holy Trinity's 60-year-old vocations director, who is editor of a scholarly journal on Cistercian monasticism.
This program is a 2-year career-tracked vocation for those students electing not to obtain a baccalaureate degree from a 4-year academic institution.
"I decided to spend one year to discern this vocation". But after two months, LeBlanc had his answer.
I say that as a 51-year-old with a vocation that increasingly leads to self-employment, so take it with a grain of salt.
