At age 20 Xie won the right to challenge for the women's world title, and, in 1991 she defeated Maya Chiburdanidze of Georgia, who had been champion since 1978.
The occasion for the gathering at which Mr Xin spoke was the recent release from jail of Xie Chaoping, a former prosecutor and journalist who had written and published a book about the forced relocation of hundreds of thousands of people during the construction of a massive dam on the Yellow River in the 1950s.
Xianghui Xie of Grandall, one of Proview's lawyers, says it has asked over 40 cities to do so.
"The Chinese government understands that it needs the stockmarket more than the reverse," says Mr Xie.
For proponents of the second of these popular caricatures, China's behaviour thus far at the UN's climate change summit in Durban might look like evidence.On December 6th Xie Zhenhua, the head of the Chinese delegation, told journalists that China was willing to be part of a new, legally binding global agreement to mitigate greenhouse-gas emissions, which could come into force by 2020.
And Mr Xie, it seemed, was giving China's blessing to the main tenets of this plan.His words therefore sent a shiver of excitement through the sprawling compendium of conferences centres, hotels and revamped car parks where the UN summit is taking place.
That would probably leave India and America as the two main barriers to the Europeans' proposal.But it now seems more likely that Mr Xie didn't quite mean what he said.
However, the economy as a whole is not overheating as it did in the early 1990s, when there were widespread shortages and higher inflation.Andy Xie, an economist at Morgan Stanley, agrees that the government need not worry about inflation.
Ms Xie admits that some of its diversifications, such as a foray into insurance, make little sense.Yet shedding them will not be easy.
Ms Xie has built a strong Chinese firm.
Mr Ai's tumbling pile of 2,300 hand-painted porcelain crabs ("He Xie", 2010) lying adrift on a carpet under the watchful eye of several Van Dyck-painted Churchill ancestors in the Red Drawing Room is also visually arresting.
