A X-sectional study of 800 healthy aging subjects from 18 to 109 years free of clinically apparent disease genotyped variants in APOA1, APOC3, and APOA4 (Garasto et al. 2003).
Two geometric characteristics – moment of inertia of the cross-section in relation to the horizontal axis (I x ) and cross-sectional area (A) – were calculated as shown in Figure 1.
Cross sectional X-ray CT scans revealed the most dominant damage mechanisms which were classified as surface tow debonding, surface tow transverse cracking and inner tow debonding.
