The key is moving beyond simple recall or comprehension checks to meaningful questions that encourage thinking about the solution instead of eliminating wrong answers.
For instance, the comprehension question for the example above was "Do you believe intrusive memories mean something is wrong with you?" If participants indicated 'yes', they saw the word 'incorrect' in red on the computer screen.
