What are the benefits of writing on the computer?
▪ What cognitive processes are test takers expected to be engaged in when writing on the computer?
One of the notable changes in the educational domain of the twenty-first century is that English language learners, especially those at the tertiary level of education, are now well used to writing on the computer.
The study revealed that "scores of computer-based writing were significantly higher than those of paper-based writing, indicating a better quality of the texts produced on the computer" and that "participants, irrespective of their level of computer familiarity, made fewer language errors when writing on the computer" (p. 13).
Other activities frequently mentioned were difficulty in washing the armpit on the unaffected side, styling their hair, putting on tight clothes, buttoning up jeans, tying shoelaces, slicing cheese and bread, carrying large or heavy objects using both hands, or writing on the computer for longer periods of time.
This applies whether writing on the computer or by hand.
