The basic $34.95 membership buys a member $1,000 worth of audit insurance for the year.
On June 24th PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), an accounting firm, said it had withdrawn a decade's worth of audit reports for Yukos, thus bolstering the case against a company that the Kremlin would like to portray as Russia's Enron.
"There is no internal audit worth speaking about".
In the lead so far: Ernst & Young, which has picked up new public accounts worth nearly $400 million in audit and consulting billings since the first of the year.
It paid $300 million in dividends for 2000, after years of paying little or nothing, and released three years' worth of financial results audited to international accounting standards.
That does not prove the audits were worth the cost, although the fact that so many problems were fixed — in some cases requiring substantial accounting restatements — does indicate there was considerable benefit.
In January, for example, a 6,000- gallon oil spill at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico destroyed $1 million worth of laser equipment, the audit said.
All told, the audit lists $288,405 worth of expenses as questionable -- a small amount given the city's roughly $44 billion budget.
Of broader, and perhaps more pressing, concern is the much larger IRS initiative, of which the GHWI is a part, to audit high-net worth or high-wealth individuals.
For the Brexit audit, it's worth noting that Facebook appears to have only looked at identified Internet Research Agency IRAA) pages or account profiles — IRA being the previously unmasked Russian troll-farm — so there could be scope for other Russian-backed accounts to have bought ads intending to meddle with Brexit without Facebook realizing it.
