From the 199 participating apprentices and their workplace trainers, 117 (59 %) worked in small organizations (up to 49 employees), 46 (23 %) worked in medium-sized organizations (up to 249 employees), and 36 (18 %) worked in bigger organizations.
Moreover, most of them (78.7%) worked in medium or large sized (≥75beds) hospitals, the primary departments in which they regularly worked were medical/ surgical (21.7%), followed by emergency (20.4%), more than one department (11.7%), pediatrics (10.8%), and dialyses (10%).
The number of inhabitants in the area of practice was also relevant, with physicians working in larger cities (> 50000 inhabitants) being more likely to recommend and practise CAM compared to those working in medium or small size communities.
The factors associated with pneumoconiosis in these workers were medium level of exposure, more than 25 years working in underground mining, and medium sized companies.
