One company that is praised and scorned in equal measure, Aristotle Circle, charges $375 for an E.R.B. assessment and $499 for a workbook with 450 sample questions that the company says reflect the actual test.
The site's Teacher Store offers them a discount on 6,000 items that range from phonics workbooks to so-called classroom decoratives (like a chalkboard banner that says "I Think I Can, I Know I Can").
That, in turn, amplifies your capacity for self-expression and joy, says Lee Crutchley, illustrator, designer and author of The Art of Getting Started, a workbook designed to jumpstart creativity.
Handing the students a second-grade workbook would have been insulting, she said.
"Social networking has primarily been about making connections between people," said Lance Weiler, founder of the Workbook Project and a partner in the new consultancy Seize the Media, which has worked with Microsoft, eBay and the Creative Artists Agency.
So Chihiro said we would do a separate workbook.
