The participants with Wernicke's aphasia might have relied to a greater extent on the visual reading pathway than the phonological pathway to achieve written word judgements.
Written word judgements activated the bilateral fusiform gyri, left parahippocampal gyrus; left middle temporal gyrus extending into the temporal pole; right middle and superior temporal gyri and superior temporal sulcus extending into the temporal pole.
