"The Time That Remains," which tells the post-1948 stofy of his parents, is in some ways a more conventional narrative than his other films (which include the wonderful "Divine Intervention"), and its exquisite balance of visual rigor and heartfelt emotion gives it remarkable, if always quiet, beauty and power.
