About 37% and ~63% of the UniSeqs found hits in SwissProt and TrEMBL, respectively, leaving ~36% of the UniSeqs without similarities to known proteins.
We have identified 60 ncRNAs (including 45 lincRNAs without similarities to any RNA signature; Additional file 10: Table S4) that are probably under the control of TeloSII regulatory elements.
It was intriguing because the proteins included in these nematode families, especially the C. elegans members that had been previously annotated in KEGG, had to contain a fair amount of sequence homology to be recognized as the canonical enzymes, yet they were found without similarities to any non-nematode proteins by our discovery pipeline.

This represents sets of similar proteins that have yet to be characterized and proteins without similarity to any previously characterized sequence.
Most interestingly, though without similarity at the sequence level, Legionella VipE (YP_096808.1) and YP_094180.1 had an extremely similar 3D structure, with a mirror symmetry for the C-terminal end parts (76% structure similarity, <5 Å; Additional file 8: Figure S5B).

Otherwise, when a target is absent, the coherent integration output vectors estimated from individual subintervals are uncorrelated positive random vectors without similarity.
