Klinger et al. (2014) found that power outages impact health at many levels within diverse settings, including the difficulties of accessing health care, maintaining frontline services, and addressing the challenges of community health care such as the provision of electrically generated home oxygen supplies.
With the spiritual wealth accumulated through centuries of discourse within India, Diasporic Hindu communities have been able to use that capital in helping to evolve the spiritual traditions and acclimate within diverse settings across the globe, while those who have found Hinduism from other walks of life have added their own rich contributions.
They have been investigated within diverse settings and cultural groups [ 20- 22] and among patients suffering from a wide range of diseases (cardiovascular, renal, cancer, HIV infection [ 23- 26]).
To ensure that the new training programme is deliverable it must be sufficiently flexible to fit within these diverse settings and that it must be evaluated.
The importance of regular consultation with the principal users of the training programme – the senior house officers – will be essential to ensure that the programme is deliverable within the diverse settings in which they learn and work.
Study sites were selected from among those participating in the PURE study [ 22] to cover diverse settings within Malaysia: two urban sites close to the capital, Kuala Lumpur (Petaling Bahagia and Sungai Buloh) and two rural sites, one in Peninsular Malaysia (Tanjung Sepat) and one in rural Sabah (Kota Marudu).
For AHAs, clarity of role and scope of practice is vital, particularly within large teams and across diverse settings [ 11- 13].
In addition, a working draft of the competencies was distributed to select member organizations with the goal of improving the flexibility of the document so that it could be used in the diverse settings encountered within the OST field.
We shared our experiences on the informed consent process, community and participant healthcare, disease prevention, aspects of counseling, and confidentiality within diverse cultural settings, in an effort to enrich the ethical context of the MVP trials.
Both clinics are located within diverse, urban settings and have a history of recruiting patients with comparable levels of ethnic diversity, diagnostic profiles and co-morbidity [ 18, 19].
The most frequently mentioned competencies included an understanding of: the global burden of disease, travel medicine, healthcare disparities between countries, immigrant health, primary care within diverse cultural settings and skills to better interface with different populations, cultures and healthcare systems.
