Experiment with your stride.
If you start with your stride leg slightly back, simply shift your weight to that back leg.
Experiment with your stride by extending as far you can, and then seeing if you can hoist your body from that position.
Instead of a small step back with your stride leg, start with pivoting your foot outwards, (right foot for righties and left foot for lefties).
