The Orion String Quartet, the quartet-in-residence with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, presented six free concerts devoted to the complete 16 string quartets by Beethoven.
The ensemble ended with a brilliant yet never ostentatiously showy account of the Quartet in C (Op. 59, No. 3), the last of the three "Razumovsky" quartets.

This weekend is devoted to Beethoven string quartets, with the Tokyo String Quartet offering the Quartets in F (Op. 18, No. 1), F minor (Op. 95, the "Serioso") and E flat (Op. 74, the "Harp") tomorrow night, and the St. Lawrence String Quartet playing two late works, the Quartet in F (Op. 135) and the Quartet in C sharp minor (Op. 131), on Sunday.
MUSIC MOUNTAIN The Formosa Quartet and the pianist Pamela Mia Paul come to northern Connecticut's string-quartet shrine to offer a hefty program of music by Wolf (the "Italian Serenade"), Beethoven, (the Quartet in B-Flat Major, Op. 130), and Brahms (the Piano Quartet in A Major) along with a new work by Shih-Hui Chen.
The Orion String Quartet, the quartet in residence of the Chamber Music Society, was the featured musical attraction, although string players associated with the Society performed separately or with Orion.
