This was in agreement with the reported AFM results on few-layer graphene sheets [5, 8, 17], where the single-layer graphene is always approximately 1 nm, probably due to different attraction force between AFM tips and graphene as compared to SiO2 and imperfect interface between graphene and SiO2. In this original process grayscale lithography and thermal reflow were combined, i.e. a positive resist was locally exposed with a modulated dose of high energy (100 keV) electrons, which enabled to create a height profile with distinct steps after development in a suitable solvent.
AFM of H6 reveals an undulating height profile varying from 1.5 to 6 nm, consistent with a helical tape.
