To obtain a comprehensive overview on the phylogeny of colobines, the dataset was expanded with further sequences from related taxa deposited at GenBank (Table 2).
With further sequences available, it is clear that the Fss amino acid sequence is homologous in its T-domain to the Tbx6 subfamily, nesting alongside Tbx6 proteins of other teleosts, amphibians, lizard, and mammals (Fig. 1; supplementary material Fig. S1, cladogram of the entire tree; supplementary material Table S1, list of gene accession numbers).
