Frank Rich ("Patriots Who Love the Troops to Death," column, Aug. 5) chose to belittle the efforts of my father, Rabbi Baruch Korff, with a simplistic supposition that reflects neither the depth nor the significance of his motivation.
Note, however, that for Ockham, Burleigh and others, a term with determinate supposition supposits for everything of which it can be truly predicated.
This, however, is only a supposition, and further experiments with a larger group will be necessary to establish whether it is correct.
When a number is added to a term of first intention (like 'man'), the presence of this numerical term modifies the kind of supposition from simple to personal; but one can refer to a universal only with a term with simple supposition.
In accordance with this supposition, a broad range of anti-viral mechanisms are known to occur in practically all living taxa, such as RNAi [3] [5] in many Eukaryote lineages, pattern recognition receptors [6] [8] in metazoan and plants and restriction-modification systems in Eubacteria and Archaea [9], [10], to cite a few.
This finding fits the predictions of a previously published kinetic model [ 6] and is consistent with a long-held supposition that genes encoding mRNAs with short half-lives are best suited to respond quickly to transcriptional activation or suppression [ 2].
In line with the above supposition, a number of the γ-secretase substrates have been implicated in vascular pathogenesis.
