"Winter Stories," from 2008, followed a man through the metaphorical winter of his life.
The evening begins with a cocktail reception at 6, followed by a reading by Lee Stringer, the author of "Grand Central Winter: Stories From the Street" (Seven Stories Press, 1998).
Listeners were invited to call in their favorite winter stories.
"I was originally against hiring him," said Mr. Stringer, who after leaving the paper wrote the acclaimed book "Grand Central Winter: Stories From the Streets".
Just before winter, stories emerged of hundreds of people living in tents, garages and shipping containers because they could not afford to rent, were on waiting lists for a state house or had given up trying.
For an installment called "Tales of Wonder," the Cherokee-Powhatan storyteller and linguist Gregg Howard related traditional Native American winter stories like "Rabbit and the Bear , about working together for the good of all, and "Little Turtle," about what happens when you try to be someone you're not.
