Last year, MacGregor, president of London-based public relations firm Reicura, took her Toronto-based mother to a Napa Valley, California, winery for her 50th birthday.
By 2005, the cost of running the winery overwhelmed her and she sold the facility to Twomey Cellars.
"There" was Napa Valley in the late 1960s, where Mondavi worked as a publicist for the Charles Krug winery, which her future husband's family operated.
His daughter, Sandi Sharpe, 65, lives on the four-acre vestige of the Krumm winery with her husband, Wilmer, where they continue to prune 13 rows of vines, giving away the grapes.
In 1986, she replaced her elder son, Sam Sebastiani, who had embarked on an ambitious and costly plan to focus on higher-quality wines, as head of the winery with her younger son, Don Sebastiani.
