The team will include scientists from other parts of NASA, and a dozen universities and other institutions across the nation.
The Pentagon has not released a list of the 150 people at the secret meeting, but according to leaks, they will include scientists and administrators from the three main nuclear weapons laboratories, Los Alamos, Sandia and Livermore, senior officers from the air force and strategic command, weapons contractors and civilian defence officials.
Members will include scientists, theologians, philosophers, lawyers, and representatives from important science organizations.
The collaboration will include scientists and engineers from the two national labs and IME, as well as scholars from UChicago's departments of physics, chemistry, computer science, and astronomy and astrophysics.
The team will include scientists from 10 universities including Stanford, the University of California, Berkeley, Yale, Penn State, the University of Arizona and Arizona State, as well as two research institutes and three organizations within NASA: the Goddard Institute for Space Studies, the Ames Research Center and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
UC Berkeley and the nearby Green Science Policy Institute, a science and policy organization, are currently planning the event, which will include scientists, regulators, and companies that have developed or are developing such methods.
"The group will include respected scientists and statisticians and have the independence recommended by the peer review".
The reports from the visiting panels, which will include foreign scientists, are expected to lead to a two-tier system that favours a handful of elite universities.
"Each research group will include five scientists from different disciplines working on a problem with truly interdisciplinary character," Angelika Willms-Herget of the BMBF explained at the convention.
Guests will include bench scientists, business owners, entrepreneurs, consultants, CEOs, venture capitalists, government researchers, tech transfer specialists, and patent specialists from local companies.
A video is set to be released on September 11, and will include celebrities, scientists and others holding up messages of support for our environment. .
