The Ochman group published in Plos Biology a study on hominoids primates, including humans, showing that microbiome divergences are well aligned (congruent) with the phylogeny of the mitochondria genome, a relatively simple yet powerful sub-genome for host phylogeny (Ochman et al., 2010).
