To raise awareness of the overly restrictive blocking of legitimate, educational websites and academically useful social networking tools in schools and school libraries, AASL has designated one day during Banned Books Week as Banned Websites Awareness Day.
This year the American Library Association is promoting Banned Websites Awareness Day on Sept. 28. to "raise awareness of the overly restrictive blocking of legitimate, educational Web sites and academically useful social networking tools in schools and school libraries".
Page A9 National A CALL FOR OPENING ACCESS TO THE INTERNET AT SCHOOLS The first Banned Websites Awareness Day, organized by the American Association of School Librarians, was marked by several efforts, including a "graffiti debate" of censorship and e-mail campaigns by students to blocks on certain web sites.
"[Our] work has focused heavily on providing information on empowerment through [this] website, raising awareness of the importance of being kind to others through public relations and social media," she wrote.

Alan Martofel, founder of Feminist Apparel, which is best known for its online clothing website said: "Awareness-building and dialogue-creation surrounding feminist issues is at the core or our non-profit's mission".
Family-friendly policies are its norm -- with 16 months of paid parental leave, special protections for part-time workers and state-subsidized preschools where, according to a government website, "gender-awareness education is increasingly common".
Additionally, promotional strategies for an independent alcohol awareness website could be implemented to boost website traffic.
Howard Thorpe, it transpires, is actually the founder of ABLE2UK, a disability awareness website.
