"No other industry," they write, "has ever attempted, much less achieved, the depth, breadth and extent of wealth-sharing found among these firms". Of course, the recriminations of the bust imply that the "wealth sharing" was mainly a giant con game.
The reforms they are demanding — power sharing, wealth sharing and democratizing Sudan's militarized regime — are the same ones that the rebels are fighting for in Darfur.
Asked to confirm that a deal on wealth sharing had been reached, the chief mediator, Lazaro Sumbeiywo, a retired Kenyan Army general, said, "They are still drafting".
Rebel officials said the deal included a list of areas to be fleshed out in talks, including compensation for Darfuris, access for aid groups and the topics of power sharing and wealth sharing.
"I am getting information that they have agreed on wealth sharing," he said, referring to Sudan's government and the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Army, whose representatives are meeting in the Kenyan town of Naivasha.
These include determining the border; security arrangements; citizenship issues; wealth, sharing including oil revenues; a framework for future north-south co-operation; and the status of Abyei (a community that straddles the north-south border).
In addition to the subject of wealth sharing -- notably of the country's lucrative on-stream oil reserves -- the agenda of the current talks covers power sharing and the status of three disputed regions in central Sudan Abyeii, the Nuba Mountains and Southern Blue Nile.
"When you go on 'Oprah,' " he says, "no one wants to hear, 'There are 18 rebel groups who have to come together, and the problem is one of fighting over power and wealth sharing in the entire Sudan.' " The same is true with issues of development.
The wealth share of emerging markets is expected to pick up pace again.
So he assumed their wealth share was consistently that of the top 1% plus 36 percentage points.
In his speech he called for a "contract based on social democratic values – wealth created and wealth shared".
