In fact, gene expression analysis indicated that whilst both BMP4 and Wnt3a robustly induced the pan-mesendoderm markers Brachyury and Mixl1 at d3, they only weakly up-regulated the anterior mesendoderm/early endoderm markers Goosecoid, Foxa2, and Sox17.
