"We had inquiries and donations from all over the world". The NYMR attracts more than 300,000 visitors each year and believes the heritage railway contributes around £30m to the local economy.
"We do have inquiries from national chains who want to open in Carlisle, the problem is much of our retail space is quite contained.
"And we've had inquiries from parents who say 'My daughter is psychic, we want you to test her.' We tell them that we don't do testing.
"We have had inquiries about Martha Stewart," said Marvin Smilon, a spokesman, "and our response is that we are continuing to investigate possible insider trading in the stock of ImClone".
