The waveform fit is satisfactory.
When the appropriate depth is assumed, the waveform fit error is minimized (Fig. A.2).
Also, waveforms from stations at different distances are corrected with a distance attenuation law to balance the waveform fit for close-in stations and distant stations; otherwise close-in records would dominate the waveform fit (Zhu and Helmberger, 1996).
The best waveform fit was achieved by the focal depths of 15 km for the 19 43 UT event and 10 km for the 22 33 UT event.
An example of waveform fit is displayed in Fig. 2, where red traces are synthetic seismograms and black traces are observed ones.
A comparison with the result of using a single fault plane model demonstrated that the use of the curved fault model led to improved waveform fit at the stations south of the fault.
This positional relationship between the stations and the curved fault model leads to improved waveform fit at these stations, demonstrating the importance of using a curved fault model for analysis of the M 7.3 event.
A comparison with the results obtained using a single fault plane model demonstrates that the use of the curved fault model led to improved waveform fit at the stations south of the fault.
We calculated synthetic velocity seismograms generated by our source model with a sampling rate of 10 Hz, and then compared it (red) with the observed (black) velocity seismograms with a sampling rate of 10 Hz at typical stations and found that the waveform fit was excellent at all stations (Fig. 2(b)).
