On the basis of the Index of Multiple Deprivation, the electoral wards covering our population are less deprived than the rest of England (mean Index of Multiple Deprivation score, 8.69 versus 16.98; t test, P<0.001) but have a broad range of deprivation, with 22% of wards ranking in the lower third nationally.
While those enrolling did not differ from those not enrolling in terms of social deprivation, those enrolled who made a quit attempt were less deprived.
