Figure 5 depicts that older children (5 14 years vs. <5 years), female children (vs. male), and Indigenous children (vs. non-indigenous) appeared to be more vulnerable to the TCN impact.
The evolution to cure was higher among the indigenous populations (90.6 vs 81.5%, the mortality rate was similar among indigenous and urban population (9.3% vs 6.7%).
Independent of area effects the likelihood of advanced CRC was significantly higher for females than for males; blue-collar workers vs professionals; individuals with known indigenous status compared with unknown and patients with colon rather than rectal cancer (Table 2).
Health centre level factors which were independently associated with higher level of delivery of services were location (remote community vs city), community population size (≤ 500 vs ≥ 1000), region (Top End vs FW NSW) and governance (Indigenous committee/board operated vs government).
Changes from baseline in SF-36, FACIT-Fatigue, and EQ-5D scores were analysed using a covariance model, with covariates for baseline value and the three stratification factors, including baseline SELENA-SLEDAI score (≤9 vs ≥10), baseline proteinuria level (<2 g/24 h vs ≥2 g/24 h equivalent), and race (African descent or indigenous American descent vs other).
Babies born to remote-dwelling Indigenous mothers were more often preterm (12.2% vs 3.9%, P < 0.001); of LBW (10.9% vs 4.2%; P < 0.001); and more often admitted to SC (21.7% vs 12.0%) when compared to babies of remote-dwelling non-Indigenous mothers.
Compared to these findings however, national data for non-fatal hospitalisations for Indigenous children 0-4 years were more than double that of their Non-Indigenous counterparts (34/100,000 vs 14/100,000) [ 3].
The percentages of Indigenous and non-Indigenous patients with squamous cell carcinoma were similar (Indigenous 96% vs. non-Indigenous 90%).
There was little difference in the comorbidity score between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people (Table 1) and although a greater proportion of Indigenous people had diabetes (12% vs. 3%), this difference was not statistically significant (P = 0.09).
