The attempt by the Republican-dominated general assembly in North Carolina to tighten voting channels is especially worrying for older black residents who lived through the blatant discrimination of the Jim Crow laws.
Nintendo surprised owners of its Wii gaming system this morning with the launch of a new Internet-based service: The "Everybody Votes Channel" provides a simple but fun polling center where users can compare their opinions to their neighbors and players around the world.
The service has several features for the console, including the Virtual Console, WiiConnect24, Internet Channel, Forecast Channel, Everybody Votes Channel, News Channel and the Check Mii Out Channel.
Additional channels are available for download from the Wii Shop Channel through WiiWare, and appear with each Virtual Console title; these include the Everybody Votes Channel, Internet Channel, Check Mii Out Channel and the Nintendo Channel., Wii owners can download the Netflix Channel from the Wii Shop Channel.
"The Republican plan to kill Medicare is a plan to make the rich richer and the sick sicker," Harry Reid said before the vote, channelling his inner Alan Grayson, repeating the phrase "Republican plan to kill Medicare" over and over.

Why not take the momentum generated by this vote and channel it instead towards demanding a more effective European Union – one that works better, and better recognises the individual character of the markets of its constituent countries?
