In this paper, the gradient establishment times, ionization source temperatures, and the concentrations of volatile additive ammonium acetate were investigated under the guidance of experimental designs to obtain LC MS/MS signals of the highest peak intensity.
Generally, many non-volatile additives are used in bioassays to mimic physiological conditions, e.g., phosphate buffers, non-volatile salts such as sodium chloride, and co-factors.
However, LC-MS separation should only involve volatiles additives; consequently pre-column derivatisation of TEA with DNPH as a derivatisation agent has been introduced, since the TEA-hydrazone derivate shows better retention, enhanced peak shape on reversed-phase columns and improved MS detection with both positive and negative ionisation (Siegel et al. 2009; Asam et al. 2013; Qi et al. 2014).
Due to use of volatile solvent additives (i.e. formic acid and acetonitrile), the electrochemical reduction can be hyphenated online to MS. Furthermore, the reduction efficiency is controllable by tailoring experimental conditions, such as the flow rate and the square wave pulse settings.
These results indicate that the DSSC devices based on the pyridinyl-functionalized ionic liquid additive can overcome the drawbacks of the volatile organic additive, and offer a feasible method to fabricate DSSCs in future practical applications.
