Business increasingly isn't looking for a narrow view of education or a vocational specific view of education.
Soler and Miller (2010) characterize these differences as points on a continuum from "vocational and instrumental views" on one end to "progressive views" on the other (p.58), while Bennett (2005) notes the differences between "traditional preprimary school" and a "social pedagogy tradition" (p.5).
The aim of this questionnaire survey was to explore Hungarian vocational education teachers' views and judgements on three interrelated phenomena: their learning activities, their opinion regarding the importance of pedagogical knowledge and the efficiency and usage of information sources relevant to their professional development.
In line with what we have described in "Research in Hungary on vocational education teachers' views and experiences" section there are three types of institutions: vocational schools, vocational secondary schools, and mixed type of schools with both types of classes.
Of the 200-plus teenagers surveyed, 51% viewed vocational qualifications positively, with only around 12% doubting if they would influence their chances in the job market.
The initiative comes as a new report suggests that four out of five companies say they have experienced barriers to hiring apprentices, even though 89% view vocational training schemes as being key to their business success over the next two years.
But perhaps, if we all have to work until 90, we will need to start looking at courses from a vocational point of view, as the young increasingly are.
According to this view, vocational skills are a common-pool resource.
From that point of view, vocational rehabilitation is one of the methods that can be put to use by OT on behalf of reaching the patients goals when RTW and/or regaining productivity (in a more large meaning) is at stake.
