Baylis Street in the CBD was a thoroughfare for the Olympic Highway until the Gobbagombalin Bridge (referred to locally as the Gobba Bridge and is believed to be the longest continuous-span viaduct in New South Wales) about 6 km northwest of the CBD was opened in 26 July 1997.
The valley town of Millau (population, 21,400) itself is ambivalent about the viaduct.
To the Editor: Regarding "A Soaring Bridge Puts an Ancient Town Back on the Map" (July 17): I have been reading articles for some time now about the Viaduct of Millau and I was wondering if there are others out there, like me, who would not drive over a bridge that high for all the tea in China.
