The American arrival began more than 50 years ago with a trickle of artsy adventurers and bohemian-minded World War II veterans financed by the G.I. Bill.
While an estimated 17 percent of women in the general population become victims at some point in their lives, a 2006 study of female veterans financed by the Department of Veterans Affairs estimated that between 23 percent and 33 percent of uniformed women had been assaulted.
He also pushed for the release of $3.7 billion in additional veterans financing that will go toward health services, including screenings for post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury for returning Iraq war veterans, and administrative support to reduce the growing backlog of veterans' claims, which he said was 600,000.
bPatient cost-sharing is $0 or $15 per treatment session for veterans financing care through VA versus Part B premiums and 20% copayment of charges (approximately $30 per treatment) under Medicare.
"The comfortable state of public finances provides margin for manoeuvre," says the veteran finance minister, Pedro Solbes.
"Everybody got involved," Eugene Fama, a veteran finance specialist at the university's Booth School of Business, said.
Out went the heavyweight Pedro Solbes, the veteran finance minister who was praised during the election campaign as the man to trust on the economy.
But in his current role, reporting to influential veteran finance minister Wolfgang Schäuble, Spahn has been granted a licence to roam across the political field, holding forth on anything from dual citizenship to raising the pension age.
Perhaps the most fundamental problem with the vision espoused by Merkel or her veteran finance minister and European architect, Wolfgang Schäuble, is that it is based not on enthusiasm or optimism, but has been born of crisis and fear.
That much was clear from the statements coming out of Brussels, not least those from Wolfgang Schäuble, Germany's veteran finance minister, who indulged himself with some patronising comments to show where the power lies.
