After macroscopic evaluation during necropsy, the genitourinary (GU) apparatus [consisting of the anterior prostate, dorsolateral prostate (DL), ventral prostate, seminal vesicle, bladder, proximal ductal deference and proximal urethra] was dissected and weighed to assess the effect of diet on GU weight.
In particular the tissues surrounding the prostate e.g. urothelium, seminal vesicles and bladder muscularis propria layer showed no staining whereas adjacent benign prostate glands were heavily stained (Figure 1A).
In men, the prostate, seminal vesicles and bladder are anterior to the rectum.
Mice were sacrificed via CO2 asphyxiation 2 weeks after inoculation of P. acnes, and seminal vesicles, urinary bladder, anterior, dorsal/lateral, and ventral prostate lobes were collected along with other reference organs.
Using primary cultures and tissue cultures, Rab11 proteins were shown to be involved in the exocytosis of discoidal vesicles in bladder umbrella cells (Khandelwal et al., 2008; Khandelwal et al., 2013) and the exocytosis of H+K+-ATPase-containing vesicles in stomach parietal cells (Duman et al., 1999).
The infective cercariae in water are ingested to penetrate the human gut or penetrate human skin and finally reside at the mesenteric beds (Schistosoma japonicum and Schistosoma mansoni) and the urinary bladder vesicle beds (Schistosoma hematobium) [ 128].
Evaluation of the prostate capsule, seminal vesicles, and posterior bladder wall is also important when interpreting T2WI.
The interpretation of T2WI includes evaluation of the capsule, seminal vesicles and posterior bladder wall for extra-prostatic tumour invasion.
The conformal techniques at our institution have been previously reported [ 20] – the prostate, seminal vesicles, rectum, and bladder were outlined routinely on all patients, and uniform guidelines were adhered to in order to minimize inter-observer variability in the definition of these structures.
The intact urogenital tract including the bladder, seminal vesicle and prostate gland was removed en mass, fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde and processed for histology and immunohistochemistry as we have reported previously [8].
Prostate genitourinary intact (GUI) tract, i.e. bladder, seminal vesicles, coagulating and ampulary glands were removed and weighed.
