Only the very best counterfeits make it past airport security.
"For the amount of currency out there, we have very little counterfeiting," he told Reuters.
"They have a very high counterfeiting problem on the 50-peso note," he says.
The prosecutors say, for example, that the group's members operated a "very professional counterfeiting operation and, at times, have received blank passports from certain governments, including Sudan".
Counterfeiting-proof documents: Many important documents, such as birth certificates or property titles, are very easy to counterfeit, as they rely on simple techniques such as raised imprints.
Appearing before a parliamentary committee last week, Nicholas Ilett, director of investigations at the EU anti-fraud watchdog Olaf, explained that it was already extremely easy to produce very high-quality counterfeit packs: "We are not convinced that these proposals will increase the opportunities".
Look for the watermark in the "open" space of each note higher than $1. There's a watermark in genuine currency that's easily visible on the right side of each note, which is very difficult to counterfeit in a high-quality manner.
