First, an antenna separation of 160.5 mm (spiral is positioned 150 mm from the tissue boundary, see Figure 1) is selected and the spiral is shifted vertically with a vertical displacement d v from −100 mm to +100 mm. Figure 7 shows the PL for vertical displacement dv of the spiral.
In contrast, the parallel incidence of the P wave on the vertical crack makes the crack faces oscillate vertically as well as horizontally, though the vertical displacement of both crack faces are always equal (Fig. 2(b)).
Vertically, the search is restricted to the bottom 2/3 of the image; even in training x-rays with severe vertical displacement, the femoral head is still visible within this portion.
Despite its importance, this step may be a real challenge even for the expert pelvic surgeon, because of several issues including the frequent finding of multi-planar and rotational displacement components even in so-called vertically displaced fracture.
