PCP signaling provides vectorial information for cell arrangement and migration within a large field.
However, vectorial IMP functions such as signaling and transport can be studied only in the context of a membrane that separates two aqueous compartments.
The organization of hair cells in opposite polarities suggests that the lateral line can both discriminate a mechanical signals' polarity and its vectorial component.
