The precipitates can be varied between sphere-like particles of about 60 nm, ellipsoids of a few hundred nanometres (aspect ratio ~10) and needle-like structures reaching a length of a few microns (aspect ratio ~100) by reducing the pulse duration from 40 to 5 s.
The study varied both outer sphere rotation (i.e., E) and the amount of differential rotation (i.e., Ro) over a wide range.
For a typical whole body per bed position scan time of 2 to 4 min, the smallest imaged sphere varied between 4.95 and 6.23 mm at the 15:1 contrast ratio and 12.43 and 15.43 mm at a contrast ratio of 1.88 1.

The tumor microenvironment of breast cancer cells and spheres varied in composition of cytokine and chemokines involved in adhesion and angiogenesis when compared to HMEC cells and spheres (Additional file 1: Figure S1).
The BET active surface area of this sample was 1.52 m2/g and the chemical composition of the fly ash surface (AES, XPS) was significantly different from the bulk composition and varied considerably between spheres.
