In this case, it can be classified as an instance of a variant of the fallacy "affirming the consequent," albeit a normative variant which does not allow one to infer that "X is desirable" from the premises that "If X then Y" and "Y is desirable".
As a control, we treated the H154A HCCS variant, which does not bind heme, with ALA and observed that this mutant remained completely defective.
