Measures of social cohesion have included, as a few examples: membership in networks, social solidarities, membership in clubs/associations/volunteer work, social trust, social order, common values, civic participation, and place attachment (Galabuzi and Teelucksingh 2010; Demireva 2011; Vigdor 2004).
It should move leaders in education to rethink the way we look at college admission and rethink the way we present the things we say we value: civic engagement, historical knowledge, mathematical literacy, honoring the arts, access to science.
