This comes at a higher interest cost of 5.8% (versus 4.9% at March) we estimate adding around £12m a year (around 3p per share), although this seems good value to extend the maturity to 5.9 years (3.5 years).
The paper bonds are sold at a discount to fixed face values, and the interest earned over the term of the bond brings its value up to the face value at maturity.
With leverage, a buyer might be prepared to pay close to its estimated "economic value" if held to maturity.
The hope is that a big buyer (ie, the government) will end up paying more than today's fire-sale prices, temporarily depressed by the lack of buyers, but less than their "intrinsic" value if held to maturity (so the taxpayer does not lose).
Prices on all six trades ranged from a low of 96.79 (or $967.90 for each $1,000 bond) for a 5.19% yield to maturity on $100,000 face value, to a high of 99.57, 4.81% yield to maturity on $35,000 face value.

In 2009, Lejarraga et al published refinements to these charts by recalculating percentiles and lambda-mu-sigma (LMS) values from birth to maturity and incorporating updated WHO data from birth to age 2 years [ 29].
