BMW's M cars, Cadillac's V editions and the Mercedes-Benz AMG line are all defined by some sort of huge upgrade under the hood.
If you actually want to drive your XJ, you should find satisfaction in one of these four engine choices: A 4.2-liter supercharged V-8 said to deliver 400 hp; another, naturally aspirated 300-hp 4.2-liter V-8 edition; a smaller, 3.5-litre V-8 that produces 262 hp; and an XJ6 model, with a 3.0 V-6 motor good for 240 hp.
You can also choose an all-wheel-drive V-6 model or a stomping, 335hp V-8 edition.
The 325-horsepower V-8 puts out almost as much juice as the V-12 edition (the 750iL) of the previous 7 series line, and does so with a screaming eagerness that is very rare in this super sedan class.

To be sure, there are plans afoot to introduce a V-Series limited edition sport version of the XLR in the near future but, according to a spokesman for Cadillac, no decision has been made yet on what kind of powertrain will be used.
