The intersection of the GPS-tracked grazing itineraries and their buffers, that is, the pasture utilization zones, with the digital land cover data of the GIS proved particularly useful to draw conclusions about the sustainability of the herds' use patterns of land cover types and grazing resources and allowed inferences on the animals' nutritional situation (Schlecht et al. 2006, 2009).
